THE FACE OF THE ATTA MILLS GOV’T (Part One)
The Atta Mills government has hit the ground running as stated in the 2008 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress and during the campaign season. Political reporter JEORGE WILSON KINGSON takes a look at the faces behind the government, their experiences and how they intend to function in their various positions.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by Prof. John Evans Atta Mills is gradually taking shape, following appointments and swearing in of ministers most of whom have since taken their respective offices.
The NDC’s manifesto, which is virtually the party’s political document, assures a better Ghana and this it promises to achieve through investing in people, jobs and the economy.
As stated in the sections of the party’s campaign document, “The NDC manifesto is dedicated to those who work and contribute to their families, businesses and communities, but are blocked from social and economic openings. It seeks to empower every Ghanaian to access the necessities of life in securing and play a meaningful part in developing our country.”
In its typical social democratic agenda, the NDC manifesto further states that “The NDC government will measure its successes in the extent to which we shall be able to implement the policies contained in this manifesto that will benefit the majority of Ghanaians by way of job creation and infrastructure expansion and the extent to which we will be able to provide Ghanaians with the needed social services.”
With most of his ministers in place now, Ghanaians are already expectant of physically reaping the benefits of the NDC campaign
